TORONTO, ON – Project 165 is a new social art space and physical extension of Methinks Presents, located in Kensington Market. We are pleased to announce our first open house event, Behind the Curtain: a group exhibition, studio peekaboo and the opening of our little public library.
This is great a chance to go beyond the “storefront gallery” at Project 165, learn about our mission, meet our current studio artists and see what’s going on in the studios behind the curtain.
On display throughout Project 165 will be illustration, painting, sculpture, printmaking, material art, installation, performance and interactive web design created by current Project 165 studio artists.
Current Project 165 studio artists are Catharine MacIntosh, Derek Beverly, Joe Bruni, Lisa Keophila, Madeleine Charpiot, Mark Cabuena, Roben Nieuwland, Ryan Ringer and Stu Campbell. They will be present at our opening reception, and in shifts throughout the weekend.
This is also the opening of our little public library – which we invite you to become an active member of! To become a member, you must first make a donation of two or three carefully selected books, zines, magazines and/or books-on-cd. We are specifically interested in materials on contemporary literature, art, design, cultural theory, philosophy, the social sciences and counter culture. Once you’ve made a donation, you will be offered a membership. As a card-carrying member of our little public library, not only will you be allowed to borrow library materials; you will also be the first to learn of future library programming, such as talks, symposiums and readings.
We hope you will join us in celebrating this momentous occasion by dropping in for snacks, music and conversation at our opening reception on Friday, March 20.
Please note: A PWYC donation box will be available for you to make a cash donation. Donations will go directly to making Project 165 better in all kinds of ways, and every little bit – from small change to large bills – is greatly appreciated. Also, we will be accepting library donations throughout and beyond the duration of Behind the Curtain.
