This is work by my friend Clayton, who does lovely, comfy, and smart avant garde clothing for ladies & men and who started out selling at craft shows! The videos he is presenting are by some fantastic montreal & toronto artists – definitely worth checking out….
complexgeometries
autumn/winter 2009 video presentation
following a successful presentation during New York fashion week, FAWN and complexgeometries are throwing a party in Toronto to launch the new aw09 collection “…between good and evil”.
Five amazing videos have been created for the occasion will be screened this Friday March 20 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at UNIT, 1198 Queen St West. Toronto.
about the collection
The complexgeometries aw09 collection, “…between good and evil”, examines the conflict and co-existence of moral ideals. Informed by the grey area that exists between right and wrong, the collection explores a diversity of references including vigilantes, religious icons, toreadors, and ghostly apparitions.
In bold black, white and grey with hazy hues of pink and purple, pieces are made without a clear front or back, wearable either way. Large collars and capes can be used to create modesty or conceal shame. Durable and fragile fabrics interplay in deliberate contrast.
Instead of presenting a singular vision of the season’s aesthetic and in an attempt to revalue the co-operative nature of creative production, complexgeometries aw09 collection is presented in short videos from 5 different artists. The collaborators were given no limitations with the work they could produce.

about the line
While the look of complexgeometries is distinctive, every aesthetic choice is just as much a conceptual one. Using traditional streetwear as a starting point, the designs examine clothing as a consumer product and as a method of communication, implicating the garments themselves in the everyday lives that inspire them.
By gently reshaping standard items of the contemporary wardrobe and questioning the social roles and emotional comfort provided by clothes, complexgeometries has developed a dedicated following from New York to Tokyo and points in between.
about the designer
Designer Clayton Evans grew up in a very small town in northern Canada. It was during his studies at the Alberta College of Art and Design that he realized his true creative passion was clothing rather than traditional fine arts. Completely self-taught in fashion design but using the technical skills and critical thought processes he learned at school, Evans began creating complexgeometries in 2005.
complexgeometries is sold in selected stores around the globe like OAK New York, Browns London, Henrik Vibskov Copenhagen, Reborn Montreal, Nid Tokyo among others. www.complexgeometries.com
