CRAFTIVISM/EXHIBITION: Plastic Coral Reef
by angelune
If you are a fan of the Institute for Figuring, crocheting, hyperbolics, recycling, math or sea creatures, come to the Knit Cafe at 1050 Queen Street West to see a crocheted mini coral reef made entirely of recycled plastic bags! The display will be up until the end of April, including Earth Day! (stay tuned for a lil’ celebration invitation!)
The coral reef display is inspired by the Toxic Reef, a project led by the Institute for Figuring to bring attention to the plight of Great Barrier Reef and coral reefs around the world, as well as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (a mass of plastic debris located in the north Pacific that’s twice the size of Texas and 30 meters deep!).
If you’re feeling enthusiastic about it, read up on crocheting plastic yarn (plarn!) and bring in your hyperbolic contributions to the Knit Cafe and watch the reef grow before your very eyes over the next month!

It was nice to see you in the Great Hall a few weeks ago. This looks great. I look forward to hearing from you about programming we can partner on at Hart House.
