A four-part seminar series of “business best practices” for artists and makers
with Arnold Wytenburg, art business consultant.

This series of four seminars explores the business and career implications of being a professional artist or artisan. These seminars aim to demystify the essential practices that make up the business of art and craft, and are designed to meet the needs of both new and experienced artists and makers alike.

Each three-hour session concentrates on a different aspect of being “creatively self-employed” and will introduce the group to dozens of business ideas, action plans, and practical, easy-to-use tools that can be put to work right away. Topics are as follows…

Week #1 – Creativity and business: the basics- Nov.3
Creating your career plan and strategy
Selecting your ‘business model’ and ‘market niche’
Pricing and positioning for your target market

Week #2 – Marketing your creativity- Nov.10
Branding your creativity
Engaging with your target audience(s)
Cultivating your ‘market presence’

Week #3 – Promoting your creativity- Nov.17
Communications, PR, and media relations
Using ‘connectedness’ to get your message out
Mastering new media and the web

Week #4 – Selling your creative work- Nov.24
“Productizing” the results of your creative efforts
The changing role of galleries, dealers, and art fairs
Selling to customers directly, both online and offline

Sessions are held at C1 Art Space during the evening over a period of four weeks. Each session is limited to a maximum of 12 participants.

Tuesdays, November, 3, 10, 17, 24 from 6:30 to 9:30pm
All four sessions $200 + gst
Individual session $65 + gst
