CONGRATS, KRISTEN!
Introducing One of a Kind Hands-On Workshop Series
New for the 2009 One of a Kind Christmas Show & Sale: Hands-on Workshop series
D.I.Y. die-hards will love the new One of a Kind Hands-on Workshop Series. Each of the three 1- hour sessions will feature a One of a Kind artisan instructing in their medium of expertise. Workshops include: Learning to use a Drop Spindle, Pochoir: The Art of Stenciling & Herbal Soap-making.
On Friday December 4, 2009, Sara will teach students this fun technique that will change your plain t-shirts forever! Click here to sign up.
If the word “stenciling” makes you think of grape vines on a kitchen wall, think again! This technique creates the clean look of silk- screening without the mess & need for elaborate equipment. In this session, participants will select a pattern* and then using some interesting supplies (including butcher’s paper!) will apply their creative designs to an apron. Now you can wow your dinner guests, not only with your culinary skills but also your crafting abilities. Or this apron would make an extra special custom gift for the gourmand in your life! The best part is you can apply this knowledge to t-shirts, tote bags, even baby onesies.
About Sara: Sara is a seamstress, a designer and textile artist under the name Sartoria. She loves working with natural fibres because of the eco-conscious factor but also because of their beauty and functionality. Sara loves this pochoir technique and compares the result to “what leaves do to the sidewalk in autumn”.
Workshop fee includes:
· admission to the Show
· a light breakfast
· an apron to apply your designs to
· line patterns to choose from, paints & other studio materials.
(*images will be provided, but participants can bring their own if they wish)
There are only a few spots left, so sign up now.
The One of a Kind Show has a special prize for Toronto Craft Alert Readers! Simply comment on this post, and one lucky winner will win a spot in Sara’s workshop! Winner will be randomly selected on Friday, November 13! Good Luck!

Would love to see some new takes on this subject – nothing better than giving new life to a piece of clothing that would otherwise get trashed because it has a spot or paint that won’t come off! I need some motivation and inspiration. Great idea to offer seminars in conjunction with One of A Kind – good piece of PR.

very cool. I like the idea of a different way of creating patterns on material beyond silkscreening.
