Introduction to Heritage Spinning

Date: Sunday February 7th or Sunday February 28th
Time: 10am-4:30pm
Fee: $150 (includes all materials, taxes and parking fees)
Members Fee: $135

Spend the day in one of our historic homes with a costumed instructor and learn how to spin! Mixing history with practical techniques, this workshop will teach participants all the basic skills in the process that turns wool into yarn. Begin by carding wool and then learn about different natural dyes. Next, spin the woll into yarn on both the drop spindle and on an antique treadle spinning wheel. End the day by taking home all the yarn you have spun!

Heritage Spinning, Level II

Already know the basics of spinning but want to learn more? Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, proceed at your own pace to discover more about the art of spinning on a traditional wooden wheel.

Silk Marbling Workshop

Date: Saturday, Feb 20th
Time: 10am – 4:30pm
Fee: $100 (includes all materials, taxes and parking fees)
Members Fee: $90

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the ancient art of marbling. Traditionally a decorative art used in book binding, the technique of moving brilliant colour into simple and complex designs on fabric is a modern translation of this ancient skill. Participants will learn the whole process of marbling beginning with building a marbling tray and mixing the water bath. They will practice basic colour theory and simple techniques on cotton samples. And, before the day is done, they will create four unique and vibrant silk scarves to take home!
