Quilters’ Week at the Canadian Stage Company

Celebrate the history of this great art form while contributing to a local charity and seeing some professional theatre. March 1-6 is Quilters’ Week at The Canadian Stage Company’s production of Intimate Apparel—a love story about a gifted seamstress in 1905 New York who sews he savings into a crazy quilt for safekeeping. Bring a square* to contribute to our community crazy quilts at any show during this week and you are able to purchase tickets for prime seats for only $20. We’ll be constructing the quilts all week long in our Bluma Appel Theatre lobby.

Janet Llewellyn, a member of the East Toronto Quilters’ Guild and a member of our staff, will be working with us to help assemble the squares into several quilts which will then be donated to the June Callwood Centre for Women and Families. Throughout the week, staff and clients at the centre will be attending the show and learning about the history of quilting at no cost.

Come as a guild or come on your own and bring as many squares as you can to help us make as many quilts as possible. For every square you contribute, you can purchase a $20 ticket so friends can come along even if they are not quilters themselves!

Guild Challenge: The guild who contributes the most squares to our quilt will receive 20 free tickets to a preview performance of ‘Art’, as well as gift certificates to local restaurants. So come out in a group and make a difference. To book tickets in advance or for more information, please contact Rob Kempson, Community Relations Manager at 416.367.8243, ext. 280 or rkempson@canadianstage.com.
