GET TOGETHER: The Modern Quilt Guild T.O.
by jen
I recently learnt about the Modern Quilt Guild concept from Karyn and felt that it would be of serious interest to loads of TCA readers. While traditional guilds can be fantastic for skill development and professional support, I have often heard complaints about high membership fees, feeling excluded by established members if your approach to the craft differs, and feelings of aesthetic alienation. From all appearances, it seems like the MQG concept seeks to offer an alternative for those quilting outside the lines.
That said, I was really happy to see on the Modern Quilt Guild website that, despite advocating a “bend the rules” approach to quilting, they also suggest educational activities such as workshops and speakers.
Getting excited about the concept? Read on for a note from our very own Toronto MQG!

The Toronto Modern Quilt Guild is a newly formed (but fast growing) guild for young or young at heart quilters interested in exploring the form of quilting and making it new and contemporary. It’s a traditional guild for non- traditional quilters – a place to share our work, learn new techniques, contribute to and build community. Our guild is light-spirited, fresh, and fun. We’d love to have you join us.

Thanks for bringing our Guild to the attention of your readers Xjenx.
The guild officially opened for business two weeks ago today, and we already have 36 members! We’re excited about the level of interest and seeing where TMQG’s membership takes it.
Thanks again,
Kit

Very interesting, the quilts are really refreshing as many of the guilds do so much traditional work and need to look beyond the box…I will keep an eye on this site and observe as I live too far away right now…
Wow Congrats to your members. Dianne
