March Workshops
ETCHING
Learn one of the oldest forms of printmaking and become part of this rich history with our introduction to the intaglio printmaking. This course will take you from a blank piece of copper to a rich black and white print. Learn all steps of this printmaking practice from plate preparation, the use of different grounds for drawing and the final printing.

Materials included
MOLD MAKING
Create a rubber mold for casting duplicates. Starting from scratch, create a simple relief clay sculpture, pour a silicone mold and cast it in concrete. Your final mold can be used again and again with a variety of casting materials including cement, plastic, plaster, even fibreglass. We’ll use the same products professionals use, learn where to buy them, how to use them safely, as well as tips, tricks and techniques to make successful molds for a variety of projects.

MONOPRINTING
Learn the basics of printmaking to create images with ink, paper, copper and an etching press. No two prints are ever alike. Several printmaking techniques will be learnt in this course: mixing inks, drawing with inks, operation of the press, and understanding how inks transfer to paper. There are no rules- monoprinting is about experimentation with new materials. This is a great course for someone who has never done printmaking.

KIDS DRAWING
These workshops students will learn to express themselves through the act of drawing. Students will do a variety of activities such as; tell a story, either real or imaginary through drawing or use shapes and reference material to create a still life composition. Each day ideas will be cultivated through brainstorming and discussion and then put on to paper with a variety of materials.

YOUTH PRINTMAKING
Join us during March break for youth printmaking. Participants will learn four different printmaking techniques–silkscreen, dry point, etching and relief. Each day they will go home with a small sample print.

April Workshops
SCREEN PRINTING
Learn how to turn any image into a fine art print. Silkscreen printing is a versatile print media that is easy to learn and requires little artistic talent. Using water based inks we will teach you how to turn you drawn or digital images into full colour multi-layered prints.

PRINT-O-MANIA
This course will give you an introduction to three different print techniques: intaglio, relief and silkscreen. Participants will be taught one method each week and go home with their own print.

PINHOLE CAMERA
In this exciting workshop participants will create their own pinhole camera. As a group we will go out and capture images of county landscapes which will be developed in black and white at the studio by participants. Everyone will bring home several mysterious black and white images.

RELIEF PRINTING
Discover the art of relief printing in our introductory workshop using linoleum. This hands-on printing method will have you carving your image into the lino block and hand printing your work leaving you with a fully realized print.
April 24 & 25

LIFE DRAWING
Interpret the human form, develop hand eye coordination and improve drawing skills through an ongoing still life and figure drawing class. Figure drawing and still life have always been a cornerstone to artistic training and can be useful to both the beginner and professional artist.

PRIVATE LESSON
Spark Box Studio offers to teach private art lessons. These lessons are structured on individual needs, abilities and schedules. Are you interested in creating your own prints or learning to draw from life? Have you been interested in signing up for our classes but the dates just don’t work for you? Lessons can focus on etching, silkscreen, linocut, monoprint, figure drawing, still life drawing or any thing else you want to learn.
$45 per 2 hour lesson.
