Weekend Workshops:
Water-Based Monoprinting using the Lithography Press
Saturday May 8 (10-4) and Sunday May 9 (10-2)
Instructor: Jillian Booth
Cost: $165.00
The immediacy of painting and drawing combines with printmaking in this monoprinting workshop. Participants will use non-toxic water-based media to create imagery transferred from drawings on frosted mylar plates, using a lithography press. Multiple plates can be used to produce layered prints which will also incorporate stenciling and chine collé for additional possibilities in the exploration of monoprinting. No previous experience is necessary.
Patterned Paper Printing and Bookbinding
Saturday June 12 (10-4) and Sunday June 13 (10-4)
Instructor: Shannon Gerard
Cost: $175.00
This workshop introduces possibilities for print media beyond two-dimensional works on paper by combining bookbinding materials, processes and terminology with screenprinting. Participants will begin by using repetitive mark making and registration techniques to screenprint patterned papers. These papers will then be used to create two to three book projects including a case-bound (hardcover) notebook, a soft cover long stitched book, and a coptic bound journal; all perfect as gifts or for personal use as diaries, sketchbooks, cookbooks, etc. While not required, some experience in screenprinting is welcomed.
Mezzotint
Saturday June 26 (10-4) and Sunday June 27 (10-2)
Instructor: Ryan Price
Cost: $160.00
Mezzotint is a non-acid, intaglio technique developed in the 17th century. This unique medium produces rich, velvety blacks and beautifully soft tonal gradations. Participants will begin by creating a texture on a copper plate that will print as a full black. Working from dark to light, the image is produced by burnishing and scraping information into the plate. When the image is complete the plate is inked and printed using the etching press. No previous printmaking experience is necessary.
