Basic Papermaking
CSPM 1N01

Instructor: Emily Cook, MFA
4 weeks,  Wednesdays,  6:30 pm to 9:30 p.m., May 12-June 2, 2010
Prerequisite: some art, design, craft training, or equivalent experience.

This course will introduce students to basic hand papermaking techniques using a variety of fibres including flax, hemp, cotton and abaca. Students will learn decorative paper techniques to customize their paper for book, print or drawing projects. Students will leave with a sample book of unique handmade papers. Studio work will be supported by demonstrations, discussions, and slide presentations.
Cost: $275, $25 material fee + GST

Artist Book Basics
CSPM 1N02

Instructor: Emily Cook, MFA
4 weeks, Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30 pm, June 9-June 30, 2010
Prerequisite: some art, design, craft training, or equivalent experience.

This course will guide the students through the process of making an artist book and introduce the tools and materials for book production.  Printing fundamentals in typesetting and linocut will be explored and used in the production of individual books as part of a final exchange project. Folded and sewn book structures will be explored. Studio work will be supported by demonstrations, discussions, and slide presentations.
Cost: $275, $25 material fee + GST
