CRAFTY LIT: Sword of My Mouth Book Launch (May 6)
by jen

Those of you on Facebook may have been noticing that a lot of your friends or friends-of-friends profile images are starting to look….awesome. This is because Shannon Gerard, illustrator and crocheter of sturdy plants, fuzzy foods & facial hair, is promoting her new book by offering portraits for facebook profile pics. The line up is huge, but last I heard the deal is open until May 4th. Read on for deets on the book and launch party.
Jim Munroe and Shannon Gerard have a new graphic novel called Sword of my Mouth.
It’s about post apocalyptic Detroit, the end (or the beginning?) of food, mutant hipsters, and a pretty sweet single mother.
The launch party is happening on MAY 6, at 7PM, at Tequila Bookworm (Queen and Portland).
You should come! Shannon will draw something ridiculous (but bordering on profound) for you in the front cover.
Here is a blurb about the book:
Ella’s baby isn’t quite right. But since the righteous floated into the sky and magic started working, not much is.
A stand-alone story continuing on from the acclaimed graphic novel Therefore Repent!, Sword of My Mouth moves the focus from Chicago, under siege by angels with machine guns, to the urban prairie of Detroit. Folks in the D have banded together to turn land with burned-out crackhouses into farming tracts, and seem to be on a road to self-sufficiency… until Famine rides into town.
Here are some nice things said about the book:
“Jim Munroe’s done for the Book of Revelation what Ronald D. Moore did for Battlestar Galactica.”
— Peter Watts, author of the Hugo-nominated Blindsight
“If you love tales of the apocalypse but want something smarter and more character-driven… you must read this comic.”
— Annalee Newitz, io9.com
