GET SCHOOLED: Summer 2010 Art Classes

::ADULTS::
3 HOUR INTRO WORKSHOPS

These general interest workshops are suited for artists , teachers, or beginners. These one day summer sessions allow you to explore a variety of mediums while remaining flexible to fit any busy summer schedule. Choose between one, three or all eight workshops offered in encaustic, acrylic painting, collage screen printing, brown printing, papier mache and clay ceramics.

Courses are $65 each or $60 each for 3 or more sessions (plus taxes, materials included)
Choose from a 3 hour weekend afternoon or weekday evening session.
Minimum 3 students – Maximum 6 students

COLLAGE
This workshop looks at various mediums and tools used in the creation of collage artworks. Techniques include the use of photocopy transfer printing, glazing, found materials and each building up designs when combined with more traditional drawing and painting media. Bring your own personalized laser printed colour or black and white images or choose from stock images available.

BROWN PRINTING TECHNIQUES
This alternative photography technique allows you to print imagery on paper or fabric. Brown Printing can be done later at home with low lighting conditions and little specialized equipment. No experience is necessary.

SCREENPRINTING – PHOTO EMULSION
Learn the fundamentals of photo screen printing techniques to develop skills in creating editions on paper or fabric including colour separation technique. Bring in design ideas on black and white transparencies.
Thursday, August 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm

ACRYLIC EXPLORATIONS
Learn and develop painting techniques using acrylic paints and mediums. This workshop explores how to build up surfaces and experiment with scraffito, masking, impasto, dry brush and more.
Saturday, August 14 from 2:30 to 5:30pm

ENCAUSTIC: IMAGE TRANSFER
Join us for this intro workshop in encaustic painting techniques and learn how to apply molten wax and pigments to create an abstract design. Image transfer onto wax techniques will be covered through use of xerox prints onto your backgrounds. Bring your own personalized xerox images or stock images will be available for you to choose from as well.

SCREENPRINTING – DRAWING FLUID AND STENCIL
Create your own one of a kind design on paper and fabric. Be creative through experimentation with both stencil and drawing fluid techniques.

PAPIER MACHE SCULPTURE
Learn how to build an armature and create a sculpture with papier mache including figurative or animal sculptures. Projects created will be decorated using coloured tissue, handmade and printed papers to be taken home at the end of the day.
Monday, August 23 from 6:30 to 9:30pm

CERAMICS: HANDBUILDING
Explore basic and versatile hand building technique including pinch pots and slump or hump moulds. Participants in this workshop will enjoy making sculptural or functional forms and decorating them with textural patterns and under glazes.

10- 12 HOUR WORKSHOPS

CERAMICS: WHEEL THROWING
Learn the basics in wheel throwing techniques to produce cylinders with various functions. A range of decorating methods will be covered. Suitable for all levels of experience these focused workshops are limited to five students at a time.

CERAMICS: SCREEN PRINTING ON CLAY
Build simple forms and learn basic silk screening techniques to transfer images onto your clay pieces. Whether simple designs, text or your own drawings see the possibilities of silk screening glaze decoration. No silk screening or clay experience necessary.
Thursdays, August 19, 26, Sept 2 from 6:30 to 9:45
$165 (plus taxes, materials included)

ENCAUSTIC
This workshop looks at various mediums and tools used  in the creation of collage works. Techniques include the use of photocopying, transfer printing, glazing, found objects and built surfaces when combined with more traditional drawing and painting media, 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional objects.
Saturday and Sunday, August 7 and 8 from 1 to 6pm
$165 (plus taxes, materials included)

SILK SCREEN PRINTING
Create your own one of a kind designs on paper and fabric. Projects presented in class include single and multi-colour printing. Learn the fundamentals of photo-screen printing techniques (photo emulsion method) to develop skills through colour separation, creating editions and monoprints or be creative through experimentation with stencil methods and drawing fluid. These workshops provide information on how to set up a silk screening studio at home. No printmaking experience is required. For beginner and intermediate levels.
Wednesdays, August 4, 11, 18, 25 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm
$175 (plus taxes, materials included)

::KIDS:: KIDS PARTIES OR GROUP ACTIVITY

Choose from a variety of   party ideas for kids including:
Silk Screening Designs: T-shirts.
Clay: mask making, wind chimes, animals and more
Paint your Own Pottery: cereal bowls and banks
Mixed Media Sculptures: robots, rattles
Mixed Media Paintings: self portrait, collage
Sock Puppets
Parties run for 2 hours (1.5 hours for art activity and half an hour for cake and presents.) C1 art space provides art supplies, instruction and decoration. Families are responsible for cake, drinks and any snacks.
$18 per child
Minimum of $180 for up to 10 children.
Maximum of 15 children (all materials include, plus taxes)

C1 art space presents ARTIST T-SHIRTS & TOPS SHOW, an invitational exhibition of original art on apparel.  This show will feature originally designed artist t-shirts and tops with a variety of styles and designs to be featured. Artists include:, Ross Bonfanti, David Chiu, Graham Curry, James Gardner, Patrick Klauss, Yasmine Louis, Matt Schofield, Sandra Tarantino, Magda Trzaski,  Daryl Vocat,  Laura Vegys, Erin Vincent,  and many others.
