Shibori & Ombre Dyeing Workshop
Friday May 13, 11am-2pm
$60

Try out two popular dyeing techniques in this fun workshop. Create Shibori patterns by binding, stitching, folding, clamping, wrapping or twisting. With Ombre dyeing or dip dyeing you can achieve a beautiful graduated colour effect. Mixing synthetic dyes to create vivid colours,students will dye their own t-shirt and tote bag.

Natural Dyeing Workshop
Starts Monday May 30, 6-9pm
For 3 sessions
$150

An introduction to the magical world of dyeing with natural dyestuffs (plants, bugs and minerals). Students will learn everything they need to know to continue an exploration of natural dyes at home, including mordanting, preparing the dyebath, and dyeing with cotton fabric, linen fabric and wool yarn. Basic surface design techniques such as shibori will also be explored. Each student will also complete a dye sample book for future reference.

Peter Wilkins’ recent series Loop is an examination of built environments and how “pattern languages” relate to urban planning and public space within Toronto. Working with photography and the moving image, Wilkins’ investigations of landscape and architecture accentuate optical structures, as figure and ground are transposed into geometric patterns through repetition and reflection.
