This has been floating around the internet (even making an appearance on Poppytalk!) but I thought I’d take a minute to let y’all know a bit about the Ontario Craft Council‘s symposium: Craft and the New Economy coming up in March.  The Symposium was borne out of a recognition that craft artists, makers, and designers are employing new practices and creating and making a living in new contexts.  The OCC wanted to create a forum where thinkers on these topics can be brought together [...]

I went to a couple of CraftTalks- a lecture and panel series co-presented by OCADU and the Ontario Crafts Council- in 2010 and took an indescribable amount of knowledge and inspiration away from them. For some reason (homework and general school-related chaos, perhaps?) I ended up missing 2011′s lineup of talks altogether. 2012 is another year, and I’m excited to be attending the first of many scheduled CraftTalks tomorrow evening. The speaker is textile artist and educator Rachel MacHenry- find all [...]

by jen

Jun 14th, 2011

I must admit I am not too familiar with Sandra Browlee’s work, but I have been alerted to this textile talk by several textilephiles whom I trust, so I figured I’d share this opportunity to hear this Nova Scotia based artist speak about her work and process – both which sound very intriguing.  Visit her website for a taste of it right here.
