In my biased (though I like to think educated) opinion, City of Craft gets better and better each year. To wit, the 2011 show, coming up this weekend (!) features:

An awesome new space (thanks Thrush Holmes Empire!) to house an expanded rosters of 55 hand-picked vendors of art, housewares, apparel, jewellery accessories, wood work, ceramics, textiles, handmade supplies, paper goods, children’s wares and more hailing from from Montreal, Philadelphia, Rochester, Pittsburgh and (mostly) The GTA & Southern Ontario. If you do plan to apply, perhaps you might like to take a gander at these handy tips before doing so. As someone who sits on this jury every year, I can attest that they are really bang-on.

Just a quick heads up to let you know that the installation and exhibition aspect of City of Craft 2009 has officially begun. At the moment 2 of the 14 (that’s right, 14) installations are available for public consumption. Megan Morgan,whose work combines paper dolls, cut outs, the silhouette, photography and fabric, has a piece entitled “Mother Paper Dolls” at Thieves (1156 Queen Street West) from December 3rd to 14th. A select grouping of crafty organizers and makers will be opening their trunks at the workroom this Sunday to present to you some hidden treasures from their crafty coffers. Unlike other trunk shows this one will only have rummage – craft supplies, deals, quality vintage wares, clothes & more. What could be in their stashes? Who knows?! The curiosity is killing us (and you…sorry).

Things are starting to get jiggy* over at City of Craft headquarters, as we just announced the results of our jurying session (painful! exhilarating! so much talent, so little space :<<<), are starting to get the new blog in gear, and have made-over the site with the 2009 artwork by TCA’s very own Amy Borkwood.

As part of the DIwhy? show on at the Ontario Crafts Council gallery until March 1st, us here at TCA, the OCC & City of Craft are bringing you the very first Canadian Screening of Faythe Levine’s newly released indie craft documentary, Handmade Nation on February 26th at 7pm.
