EXHIBITION: Two exhibitions about Inuit doll-making @ the Museum of Inuit Art (opening: Nov. 8)

The Museum of Inuit Art, Toronto, celebrates the art of Inuit doll making with two new exhibitions:

“Inuit Dolls from the Kivalliq”, a travelling exhibition circulated by the Burnaby Art Gallery, features sixty-five contemporary dolls from all seven communities of the Kivalliq (Keewatin) Region of Nunavut. These works were created during workshops organized by the Tarralikitaaq Arts Society in 2007 and were subsequently exhibited at the Kivalliq Inuit Doll Festival in Rankin Inlet. October 15th – December 31st, 2009.

Kid Icarus presents Eric Jones, creator of The Orphans

Originally, The Orphans were an urban narrative wheatpasted throughout the city to personalize and envliven the often repetitive and monotonous urban infrastructre. Through a simple template, a hundred-plus drawings were executed back in ‘08 to create the potential for “infinite” pattern making in the urban environment.

Come Winter 2009 and being back in good ol’ Canada, wheatpasting in -30 degree celcius weather seemed a bit unappealing and we decided to take The Orphans concept inside the studio [...]

Meet Crotchy. She is 12” of posable long fancy legs, all attitute (she sports a “Mom” tattoo), and high class with a pink button anus.
