May 25th, 2011

Heads (and elbows!*) up that the Textile Museum‘s annual More Than Just a Yardage Sale is upon us this Friday.  Get down to the TMC to score major deals on yardage, yarn, embroidery supplies, books, and even some vintage garb.   Last year I walked away with arms full of fabric, old needlepoint books & mags, a blouse from 1910, and a wool scarf from Japan!

*ok ok,  I make this joke every year, but it is just [...]

CRAFTY HAPPENING: Spring Uber-SWAP Japan Fundraiser (April 30, 2011)

by jen

Apr 27th, 2011

logo-UberSwap-facebookI won’t be in town this Saturday – a day that is turning out to be ramalammed with crafty action (including the Toronto Etsy Street Team’s first ever craft show at the Gladstone!), but I just sent over a bag full of cute duds to Nathalie-Roze & co.‘s Uber-SWAP in support of Japan relief.  Sounds like it’s gonna be pretty huge, so if you’re free, do head over and acquire some practically free new spring gear, and even get it altered to fit on [...]

Yet another great looking arts related fundraiser for Japan is coming up this weekend at the Gladstone.  Co-hosted by beloved eye-candy purveyors Narwhal Art Projects and with an all-star roster of contributing artists (Sonja Ahlers, Shary Boyle, Nicholas DiGenova, Julie Moon, and Jacob Whibley, to name a few) and stellar raffle prize donors, this one should not be missed!

Narwhal Art Projects, Invisible-Friends and friends are excited to host Toronto Hearts Japan, a fundraiser for our far-away loves.

Our hearts have been broken by news of devastated towns and people separated [...]

by tara

Mar 25th, 2011

Here is another art event that has been put together to benefit Japan. This one is a one-night gathering of music and performance art. Galleries such as Art Metropole and Magic Pony have donated books for sale at the show, and the work of awesome local art/illustration heavyweights such as Fiona Smyth and Nicholas Di Genova will be on sale as well. Sounds super!

CRAFTY HAPPENING: Paint Rocks! OCADU Paint Program Fundraiser w/ bands (March 25, 2011)

by jen

Mar 23rd, 2011

Music and making…one can totally inspire the other if the mood is right.  I’ve known crafters who do the finest work to some pretty heavy stuff, which somehow makes me respect their work even more.  You will not be expected to achieve any such feats at this OCAD program fundraiser – just rock out to local bands and if so inspired, buy modestly priced work by faculty and students in support of the painting program.

Paint Rocks!
Friday, March 25
Doors: 6 p.m.

Bands:

Audio Legion (with original members of the Diodes)
