Everything Under the Moon

This sounds like pretty much the best thing ever. Projection, costumes, puppets.  Xylophone, wurlitzer, ukulele, cello, trumpet.   Sounds like a recipe for pure magic… act FAST if you want tickets!

A year and a half in the making, Everything Under the Moon is the most ambitious creation to date by celebrated Toronto visual and performance artist Shary Boyle and innovative Winnipeg songwriter and performer Christine Fellows. The pair have enchanted audiences with their daring, moving [...]

It is exciting to see a university institution embrace queer art (& craft!) with reckless abandon and to to provide a truly creative and relevant space for queer and trans youth to come together and make stuff. This programming celebratiing the work and spirit of the late, great, Will Munro looks rad and involves a bevvy of talented makers and creators. Definitely put this [...]

Oct 5th, 2011

One of my favourite things about the Textile Museum of Canada is that their curators often integrate the work of contemporary artists with objects from their permanent collection of textiles. It is a relatively rare treat to see them focus an entire show on the textile-based and textile-related work of contemporary artists. Veiled will feature the work of three artists working across media. Looking so forward to seeing this once I’ve returned from my sojourn in the US of A…

FYI: The accompanying image is by multidisciplinary artist Erika DeFreitas, an artist whose compelling work with [...]

by tara

Mar 25th, 2011

Here is another art event that has been put together to benefit Japan. This one is a one-night gathering of music and performance art. Galleries such as Art Metropole and Magic Pony have donated books for sale at the show, and the work of awesome local art/illustration heavyweights such as Fiona Smyth and Nicholas Di Genova will be on sale as well. Sounds super!

(Pop)Corn Maze Performance

If you were lucky enough to be walking through Dundas Square this balmy afternoon, you may have noticed the TCA’s own Tara Bursey working out her performance muscles with the public installation of a (pop)corn maze. Me, I just spied the photos on Flickr (to watch the whole series of photos, start here) and wished I was there. If you are not familiar with her body of work, I highly suggest a stroll through Tara’s portfolio [...]
