Greetings from Baltimore, TCA readers! Funny that my first post away from my home in the heart of Downtown Toronto (I’m studying abroad for 4 months in the USA) should be about an exhibition in Hamilton. Check out the following listing for This Woman’s Work…, an exhibition which revolves around craft and textiles. FYI: The accompanying image is by multidisciplinary artist Erika DeFreitas, an artist whose compelling work with [...]

waxahachie (8)bGun Bar from the show Plata O Plomo by Camp Bosworth

Dedicated to all sorts of outsider art and mystic objects (they have a specialty in the ephemera of secret societies), the Webbs have created a space that can’t help but dazzle the senses and emotions. Oh, and this gold gun by Camp Bosworth? It is a functional bar. I [...]

EXHIBITION: Niagara File at Type Books (July 1-31, 2011; Reception: July 14, 6-8pm)

by tara

Jul 6th, 2011

I spotted this exhibition listing yesterday featuring a trio of TCA’s favourite crafty superstars, Grant Heaps, Sonja Ahlers and Alexx Boisjoli. Not only is Niagara File an exhibition, but the reception will double as a catalogue launch for the exhibition, which will feature the work of additional talented folks on top of the three exhibiting artists. I can’t wait to treat myself to a copy!

Jun 27th, 2011

With a number of TCA contributors and pals travelling further afield (or having plans to do so), I thought it would be fun to invite them to send us some postcards chronicling their crafty exploits, or inspiring imagery they encounter in their wanderings. Stay tuned for more missives from Becky & others!

Bernadette by Serena McCarroll

Some of you may already be acquainted with All Citizens (and its accompanying ‘origins’ blog, Going Rural). They are the creative offspring of the disparately prolific duo of Tyler Brett and Serena McCarroll. If not, a peruse through any of those websites is in order (the narrative-minded in you should start with Going Rural). If you are acquainted with All Citizens, you will know that it is a project borne of two artists’ frustration with [...]
