In a Canadian Art History class last year, I was lucky to learn about the Inuit printmakers of Cape Dorset, on Dorset Island in Nunavut. Cape Dorset is known as the “Capital of Inuit Art,” and is well known for its rich history of stone lithography, drawing, carving and handicraft. Last night while admiring Elly‘s foil stamped holograph Bread Clip earrings by Sandy Plotnikoff (acquired at MADE), Grant , who himself has created a gorgeous iridescent hanging garden currently showing at MADE’s installation space*, mentioned that Sandy has a print show on at an Ossignton gallery.

With a little digging I found that Foil Problem is showing at Hunter and Cook (15 Ossington Ave.) until May 16th.

If you love colour & shiny things like I do, I think this show may really do it for you!

This past weekend, when attending Quilt Sunday at the workroom, I was lucky enough to spy on the tail end of the Ukrainian Easter Egg (Psanky (or Pysanky or Pysanka)) workshop. Having always had a hankering to learn more about Psanky, I caught up with the instructor Andrei after the class and asked him for the lowdown on the craft and how he got in to it.

Most definitely one of my favourite shows of the summer, the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition is Canada’s largest outdoor art exhibition. It is a sweet sweet medley of art, craft, and design on parade at the most public of spaces, Nathan Philips Square. The show is in it’s 48th year (!) , and is a staple of summertime fun & celebration of art in the city.
