Here’s a fantastic looking three-person exhibition happening at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga which is crafty in both form and content. The show features some brand new work by Heather Goodchild, and you can preview some of exhibitor Tazeen Qayyum’s work at the Textile Museum right now in the show Veiled, which is up until February 12th.

Thanks to my pal Lizz and her blog post reminding me about interdisciplinary artist extraordinnaire Jeannie Thib’s installation in *QueenSpecific Gallery‘s window space. I passed by it a few nights ago in a mad holiday-fuelled rush and it provided me with both a brief respite and the lingering pleasure of pondering it for the rest of my walk…! Aren’t window galleries great for just these reasons?

I just read a short review on Akimblog of this knitty little exhibition of work by none other than local craft hero Kristin Ledgett of The Knit Cafe! I’m kicking myself about not finding out about this sooner. The show comes down in just a few days, so race over to Harbord Street and check it out before it disappears.

One of my favourite things about the Textile Museum of Canada is that their curators often integrate the work of contemporary artists with objects from their permanent collection of textiles. It is a relatively rare treat to see them focus an entire show on the textile-based and textile-related work of contemporary artists. Veiled will feature the work of three artists working across media. Looking so forward to seeing this once I’ve returned from my sojourn in the US of A…

I first encountered Laura St. Pierre‘s work on the wall of her apartment in Montreal (where we both lived in the early 2000s). The sculpture, painted an electric shade of chartreuse, oozed off the wall in the most pleasing way. I fell in love, and over the years I’ve watched Laura’s multidisciplinary practice evolve in more and more intriguing directions. Eager to better understand her work (and share it with you guys!), I asked Laura a series of questions from her current home base in Grand Prairie, Alberta, where she teaches visual arts.
